Singapore Radio Awards? Huh?

I happened to glance at the New Paper this evening while having dinner and guess what caught my eye. Some guy writes in to ask about the Singapore Radio Awards and why are they only featuring Mediacorp Radio DJs? I mean, there are others who can run circles around these Mediacorp Radio DJs and one of them is Joe Augustin from WKRZ and Jeremy Retnam from Power 98. How come none of these guys are featured in the awards? As the guy who wrote in the paper rightly pointed out, shouldn’t it be called the Mediacorp Radio Awards? Why bother to call it the Singapore Radio Awards if other radio stations in Singapore but NOT part of Mediacorp are not featured. Very simple, my dear reader. Mediacorp, by and large, is a corporation that is a legend in its own mind. Blowing its own trumpet, having its cake and eat it too, we could go on. Well done Mediacorp. You just got owned and owned big time!

They have done it again. No surprise really...

They have done it. It was only a matter of time and somehow, I knew it would come. Not that I had a nagging suspicion at the back of my mind that they would do it, but they did it nonetheless. It only goes to show how predictable and not to mention how unoriginal our Caldecott Media folks are. Of course, my dear readers, you are wondering what I am rambling on about aren’t you? Well it is like this.

Remember when I was commenting about Singapore Idol and all that jazz? Well, hot on the heels of Singapore Idol, and at the same time taking a leaf out of the book of another reality show that is or was quite popular in the US, comes our very own variation. Get ready for this folks. Singapore’s own version of So You Think You Can Dance, called Dancefloor or something like that. It came out on TV while I was channel surfing and I was so taken aback, even though I knew it was coming, that I did not get the full title of the show. Still, it is coming and our Mediacorp folks, with their usual aplomb, have touted the show as being the greatest thing to local reality TV since when…Singapore Idol?

Mediacorp, Mediacorp. What HAVE you to say now?
